Textiles from Bengal: A Shared Legacy

2025 | Kolkata

Textiles from Bengal: A Shared Legacy was a survey into the extraordinary history of textiles and garments from the region of Bengal, spanning an almost 400 hundred year period with some exhibits dating as far back as the 17th century. Presented by the Weavers Studio Resource Centre at the Kolkata Cultural Centre in Kolkata, the 3 month long exhibition highlighted the unique position that Bengal has historically occupied globally - at the crossroads of trade, craftsmanship, art and design. Working closely with the exhibition curator Mayank Mansingh Kaul, exhibition designers Rajat Sodhi and Reha Sodhi, and Conservationist Anupam Sah to relay the context of each piece within its larger narrative, while balancing preservation and presentation, our aim was always to take the viewer on an unforgettable journey through the incredible archives presented in this exhibition.
